Ask a great question. Pause and wait for the audience to think. If you want curiosity, ask something like, “Have you ever imagined that…?” If you want learning, ask, “Have any of you had a great teacher who…?” If you want humor, ask a surprise question that brings a smile. What do you know about your audience? How long are you speaking? Is it a lecture-style format, an interactive training, or a talk with Q&A? Formal or informal? Mic or no mic? What’s before and after? The more you know about your audience and their expectations, the easier your job. Novice speakers assume. Don’t assume; ask questions and listen.
